The 18th green at Muirfield Village Golf Club, the clubhouse and its clock tower behind

A great golf course is where a Nicklaus community begins, not where it ends.

For more than fifty years Jack Nicklaus has built places as carefully as he built a golf swing. Nicklaus Design has created more than 450 courses in 47 countries, and around the finest of them the family has developed clubs and communities that hold their value for generations: land planned with the course rather than around it, a clubhouse sited where the round ends, and a club culture set from the first day.

Three properties show how. Muirfield Village, the club Jack built in his hometown. The Bear’s Club, the family’s home club in South Florida. And NOKOSI, the first project of the new development group led by Gary Nicklaus and the Nicklaus family with TWG Global.

Jack acquired the land in 1966 and dedicated the course on Memorial Day 1974 with an exhibition against Tom Weiskopf, shooting a 66 that stood as the course record for five years. He built it in his hometown for a reason: to give Columbus a tournament of its own. The Memorial Tournament has been played here every year since 1976.

The 220-acre property was planned for spectators as much as players, and the club has gone on to host the Ryder Cup, the Solheim Cup and the Presidents Cup, the only course to have held all three. It remains the model for every Nicklaus club that followed: the course first, and everything else built to serve it.

Jack founded The Bear’s Club in 1999 as the family’s home club, on 369 acres of pine and palmetto a mile from the Atlantic. He kept the native brush wherever he could, built the bunker faces high with sand brought in from Ohio, and routed the course so the round ends at the water in front of the clubhouse.

Unlike Muirfield Village it was never meant for tournaments. It was meant to be the finest private club experience in the game, with a small community of homes set among the fairways, and it has been recognized among America’s top golf communities. It is where the family’s standard for a private club was set: unhurried, uncrowded, and built to last.

NOKOSI is the first project from the new development group led by Gary Nicklaus and the Nicklaus family alongside TWG Global, and Jack’s first course design since the family reacquired the business he founded. It is rising on the 153-acre site of the former Sherbrooke Golf & Country Club, twenty minutes from Palm Beach International Airport.

“NOKOSI is very personal to us,” Jack said. “It’s about creating a place where families can come together around great golf, great friendships, and a club culture built to last for generations.” Construction is underway, with play anticipated in late 2026.
