One of the best full fields of 2017 on the PGA TOUR is now final and ready to take on the challenge of PGA National’s Champion course in The Honda Classic.
Twelve of the top 25 players in the world, led by defending champion Adam Scott (7), will compete February 20–26 on the Champion course at PGA National Resort & Spa.
Scott will be challenged by Justin Thomas (8), Sergio Garcia (9), reigning Masters champion Danny Willett (13), Rickie Fowler (14), Paul Casey (16), Branden Grace (17), Russell Knox (18), Tyrrell Hatton (19), Brooks Koepka (20), Jimmy Walker (23), and Louis Oosthuizen (25).
Scott has eased into his 2017 schedule. He took six weeks off before playing in The Singapore Open in mid-January and then another three weeks off before entering this week in Los Angeles.
Thomas and Garcia are two of the hottest players in the world. Thomas scored back-to-back PGA TOUR victories in Hawaii last month. Garcia, who finished second to Scott at The Honda in 2016, had a wire-to-wire victory at the Dubai Desert Classic February 5 that catapulted him back into the Top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
The star-studded International field at The Honda also includes Englishmen Matthew Fitzpatrick (29), Luke Donald (97), and Ian Poulter, Belgian Thomas Pieters (47), South Africans Ernie Els and Retief Goosen, Spain’s Rafa Cabrera Bello (26), Argentine Emiliano Grillo (28), Italy’s Francesco Molinari (31), Germany’s Martin Kaymer (50), Irishmen Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell (87), and Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa.
The American contingent is headed by Palm Beach products Brooks Koepka (20), J.B. Holmes (32), Daniel Berger (33) and Zach Johnson (39).
Several former Honda champions will also play including Russell Henley (2014), Camilo Villegas (2010), Rory Sabbatini (2011), Mark Wilson (2007), and Michael Thompson (2013).
“We are once again thrilled at the quality of our field and look forward to a phenomenal week of golf,” Honda Classic Executive Director Kenneth R. Kennerly said. “The Champion course has never looked greener and better. We are introducing new features like the innovative Legends Club which I know will become a special venue for some of our fans.
“When you mix in some of the additional events we have such as the free Kenny G Community Concert after play on Thursday night and our array of hospitality offerings at The Bear Trap and around the golf course, we think we are providing something for everybody to make their visit to The Honda Classic memorable.”
