Nicklaus, “Big Four” back for sophomore Legends of Golf event at Insperity

The Insperity Championship, played Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5 on the Champions Tour, will again feature a special one-day Legends of Golf event–reuniting the “Big Four” of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Lee Trevino. The 2012 event, which gave a record number of golf fans the unique opportunity to watch the legends play together again last year, was supposed to be a one-time occurrence. But strong demand called for an encore.
Played at The Woodlands Country Club in The Woodlands, TX, golf fans will again have the chance to watch Nicklaus, Palmer, Player and Trevino in an 18-hole exhibition round. The group has amassed 185 PGA Tour titles and 40 majors between the four of them. This year, they will be joined by newcomers Johnny Miller and Raymond Floyd, as well as returning participants Don January, Miller Barber, David Graham, Gene Littler, and David Stockton.
“We didn’t make any bogeys, we made a few birdies and we hit a few nice shots and had a great time. And that’s what this was all about,” Nicklaus said of last year’s match, which he won alongside Palmer and Player in the three-person scramble format match.
“Jack played beautifully all day,” Player said. “Don’t let him tell you he doesn’t play. I think he keeps a net in his backyard.”
Admission, as it is all week, is free to the event, which will be played in the afternoon of the second round after the regular field is well on its way around the course. For more information about the event, visit www.insperitychampionship.com.
