U.S. Open: Jack Nicklaus Facts & Photos
Did You Know?
Jack Nicklaus' historic assault on the professional record book began when he won the first of his four U.S. Open Championships in 1962, his rookie season as a professional. Nicklaus, who also won in '67, '72 and '80, is one of only four golfers to capture four U.S. Opens. The others are Willie Anderson, Bob Jones and Ben Hogan.
Jack Nicklaus holds, or has tied for 17 U.S. Open records, including: Lowest 72-hole score by an amateur, with his 282 in 1960 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Englewood, Colo.; most runner-up (4), Top-Five (11), Top-10 (18), and Top-25 (22) finishes; and longest span between first and last victory (1962-1980).
Father of five and grandfather to 21, Jack Nicklaus won all four of his U.S. Open victories on Father's Day.

With his favorite course, Pebble Beach Golf Links, as the backdrop, Jack Nicklaus’ appearance in the 2000 U.S. Open was his 44th and final start in a U.S. Open Championship. Before his final hole, the Golden Bear paused on the tee box of the 18th to reflect on a career that has included four U.S. Open titles and countless memories. He then added one more when Nicklaus electrified the crowd by reaching the par-5 finishing hole in two with a 3-wood from 261 yards. |
